“I have learned that being Native, there’s this universal connection, just this camaraderie between Natives, this knowing . . .”
… I went to Peru, and there were a lot of similarities, with simple respect of offering something if you were to take from the Earth. All Indigenous people have that connection in respecting Mother Earth, and giving things, if just a prayer. There they prayed and gave with coca leaves. In New Mexico maybe it will be turkey feathers and cornmeal. And in California we may offer tobacco, but you never take without a prayer. And it doesn’t matter where you’re from or what Tribe, it’s just conscious knowing, it’s a respect.”
