Southern Minnesota Guy adores his beloved North Star State, but recognizes there’s a big world worth exploring beyond its friendly confines.
Just a few hours to the south, just across Lincoln Way from the campus of Iowa State University in Ames, you’ll find the storied Hilton Coliseum, which has hosted basketball, volleyball, wrestling, gymnastics and more for nearly 50 years.
If you’re in town for a game you may as well take a tour of the campus itself (pictured below, the Great Room in the Memorial Union), and you’re a damn fool if you don’t grab some pizza at Great Plains Sauce & Dough Company in downtown Ames.
